VISIT TO BAU FAIR IN MUNICH WITH SCHUCO

30/01/2025

A few days ago, our Chief Executive Architect, José Moragues, had the pleasure of attending the Bau Fair held in Munich, Germany. He was invited by Schuco, a prestigious window manufacturer that we often collaborate with on our projects. We are grateful to them for giving us the opportunity to participate in this international event, the most important in the world for architecture, materials, and construction systems.

Schuco took the opportunity to present their new products. We were struck that the main demand in Europe over the coming years, which they are currently working on, is to upgrade buildings that are not energy-efficient. We are talking about 75-80% of existing buildings. In other words, they are going to focus on renovation rather than new construction.

To this end, Schuco, that apart from windows and balcony doors also produces façade cladding, has developed an own system that fits into old subframes. As an interesting fact, they presented a window—designed primarily for buildings in large cities with heavy road traffic—that is swung from the top and still maintains a noise level of less than 34 decibels. A spectacular sound insulation allowing a good ventilation.

During the days we spent in Munich, apart from being at Schuco's stand, which spans over 1,500 square metres, we explored other aspects of the fair. It was a showcase of the latest trends and advancements in the world of architecture. In this regard, we returned home with the following conclusions:

- Sustainable and resilient architecture: great emphasis on construction solutions that minimise environmental impact as well as being to be adapted to climate challenges.

- Digitalisation of construction: technology will play an increasingly important role in the sector.

- Urban planning and space transformation: projects addressing the challenges of growing cities, were presented, such as urban densification, sustainable mobility, and the creation of quality public spaces.

- Industrialised and modular construction: prefabrication and modularity are emerging as efficient and fast alternatives for building construction.

- Smart and adaptable materials: materials responding to external stimuli, such as light or temperature, offering new possibilities in terms of design and functionality.

We returned home with a wealth of experience.
