This project is placed in a plot located in the touristic Playa del Arenal, but it is not just any plot, it is an enclave currently used as parking, located in a fairly degraded area. With this premise, we started an exciting project for a European promoters, in love with Jávea, that want to leave their mark on the town with an emblematic project.
The spirit of the work we have presented and which has been enthusiastically supported, is to help improve the conditions of this neighbourhood through architecture, as it has happened in other cities of very different scale but with places with the same problem, where urban revitalization has been pursued through iconic actions that enhance the neighbourhood.
One of the main features of the building is the construction of a double skin system, an option that we have already implemented in the Library of Aduanas del Mar, which provides a very particular aspect to the building. In this case, this second skin consists of a system of wooden slats, some fixed and others mobile, which help us to control such important parameters as privacy, light or shade when the user considers it. The wood is combined with metallic colors, reminiscent of forging, and sandstone-colored stucco mortar, which is well integrated in the set of the double skin.
The building has the highest energy rating, which we have achieved thanks to the implementation of passive measures, after a detailed study of orientation, sunshine, cross ventilations, evaporative cooling, etc. For the construction of the building, a good compendium of measures has been considered. These actions repair the health of the user, by reducing electromagnetic fields, elimination of VOCs, natural materials, good quality of air and indoor water, appropriate levels of humidity, noise and natural light, thermal comfort, etc.
This project is particularly exciting bearing in mind the conditions of projection, which have allowed a holistic approach that not only means a well-being for people living in one of the apartments but also helps to improve, by the hand of architecture, the living conditions of people in the neighbourhood, which is the original sense of our job.
