VS House

Due to its location on a very special plot (flat, with just 15 meters wide and just over 100 long), the design of the VS House has been a significant challenge for the studio. The final program offers a house  with 5 meters in width and where the sequence of its distribution has been the most important and decisive work to make a satisfactory result for the client.

The sequence, key to the design of this house, located in the vicinity of Montgó, in Jávea, connects the rooms one by one through the reproduction of the daily life of the family that will inhabit it. We have therefore opted for two well-differentiated day and night zones, in which the courtyards act as a separating element. The courtyards are a fundamental element for sequencing, which together with the use of broken-geometry corridors organize and hierarchize the house.

The choice of construction materials have been influenced by the size limitation of the plot. Natural materials have been prioritized, steel, ceramic and lime mortar, that appart from being an antibacterial agent, recalls the traditional construction of this area of the Costa Blanca, while inside, we have opted for stucco, wood and natural stone. These materials are part of the very honest study of colors that we have done. Although we were cleary aware that the Mediterranean should be present,  we decided to choose some cream tones, because of the dimensiones of the house, avoiding not too bright or warm shades.

The exterior of the house, with a limited area as well as the whole set, has included a landscaping work with the presence of abundant vegetation. In this context, we incorporate the house into the surrounding landscape, and at the same time, we promote privacy. On the other hand, pergolas work as elements acting as dividers and as transition elements from inside to outside, without forgetting their role as elements of regulation and thermal control thanks to the shadows they project.
